Summer Clay Taster: Wheel Throwing + Glazing Experience

Join our Summer Clay Taster and get hands-on experience with throwing on the wheel and glazing your own pieces! This workshop is specially designed for beginners to discover the world of clay! During July and August, there are no multi-week courses due to the holiday period. This summer taster is the perfect way to see if wheel throwing is for you! Great as a standalone workshop, and also a fun way to explore if you’d like to start a full course later in the year!

My atelier is all about positive energy, encouragement, and creativity: a space where trying something new feels fun and inspiring. 

We teach in small groups of 6 participants, so everyone gets enough personal attention and guidance!

Session 1: Wheel Throwing Lesson - max 6 participants per session! 

This first session is on the day that you select when booking! 

What you’ll do:

• Brief introduction to ceramics
• Wedging the clay – preparing the clay for the wheel
• Short demo + learning to center the clay on the wheel
• Step-by-step guidance while practicing throwing: practice as much as you like!

No pressure:  just try, play, and discover what clay can do. Most participants end up with 2 pieces. 

After the session, your work is dried, trimmed and bisque fired at Atelier La Salamandre.  Two weeks later, your pieces will be ready to glaze in a glazing workshop.

Session 2: Glazing

After booking (including the glazing lesson), you’ll receive a glazing workshop voucher to plan your session flexibly (till september). Multiple dates are available each month. You can already check the glazing workshop dates here!

What you’ll do:

A few weeks after throwing, you return to atelier La Salamandre to glaze your own pieces! This is where your ceramics truly come to life.

Choose from a wide range of colours and glazes and decorate your work in your own style: from soft natural tones to bold colors and patterns. From stripes, to flowers or playful details. 

👉 Note: your pieces must be bisque fired first, so glazing sessions can be scheduled from 2 weeks after your wheel throwing lesson. Example: Wheel throwing 22 July → glazing workshop after August 6!  

Prefer to come for just one throwing session and skip glazing?

No problem! Your pieces will be glazed for you by Atelier La Salamandre in an elegant white or green glaze. They’ll be ready to pick up within 4 weeks after your wheel lesson.

Good to know

• Minimum of 3 participants required for the course to take place.
  
• Usually taught in Dutch, but if you are English, I will make it a fun mix of both (no problem!) 
  
• Make sure your nails are short! Throwing on the wheel with long nails is very difficult and can damage both your clay and your nails.
• Bring an old towel and wear old clothes you don’t mind getting messy.

Location

The course is held at my cozy atelier in Weesp (Stationsweg 28, second floor, room 8), just a 3-minute walk from the train station.  Plenty of parking available (€1.20 per hour).

Directions:

• It is in the large white building with many big windows (not the house next door)
• Enter through the metal gate
• Take the lift to the second floor, my atelier is room 8.
