Learn the art of making ceramics in a Small Group, with Lots of Personal Attention
(5 wheel throwing participants + 2 independent handbuilding spots, select the right course type when booking)
Take a break from your busy life and immerse yourself in the world of ceramics! Whether you choose throwing at the wheel or handbuilding at the table, you’ll learn at your own pace in a relaxed, welcoming environment. My atelier is all about positive energy, encouragement, and creativity: a space where trying something new feels fun and inspiring.
Wheel throwing – 5 Spots Available
With wheel throwing, we have a structured lesson program: From preparing the clay to decorating and glazing your finished pieces. In this hands-on course, you’ll create beautiful ceramic pieces, from mugs to small bowls and vases.
It is perfect for complete beginners or anyone with a little experience who wants to further develop their skills. I’ll guide you step by step, so you can relax, enjoy yourself, and focus on learning and creating on the potters wheel!
What you’ll learn:
- centering and preparing clay
- throwing basic forms (cups, bowls, cylinders)
- trimming and refining shapes
- decorating & making handles for cups
- glazing your work
- understanding the full ceramic process
A structured course that helps you grow in a cosy and supportive environment.
How many pieces will I take home from the throwing course?
You can practice as much as you like: There’s no limit on practice clay, so no need to worry about failed pots! Only your carefully finished pieces will be fired:
- 4 lesson course: max 5 items.
- 5 lesson course: max 6 items.
- 6 lesson course: max 7 items.
- 7 lesson course: max 8 items.
Self-Guided Handbuilding – 2 Spots Available
For those who prefer working more independently, there are 2 handbuilding spots where you can explore your own projects at your own pace, with some guidance when needed!
You decide what to create: there is no fixed lesson plan, and the focus is entirely on your own ideas. Bring your Pinterest board to life or follow your intuition. From clean, structured designs to organic shapes, from functional objects to decorative pieces.
Some prior handbuilding experience is helpful, but not required. During the first two lessons (when most of my attention is on the wheel throwing group), I can provide a simple exercise to help you get started. After that, you continue working independently, with support and feedback whenever needed.
Would you prefer more step-by-step guidance at the beginning? Then I recommend booking a handbuilding workshop first, where I teach all the basic techniques.
How many pieces will I take home from the handbuilding course?
(depending on size and thickness)
- 4 lessons → approximately 4–6 pieces
- 5 lessons → approximately 5–7 pieces
- 6 lessons → approximately 6–10 pieces
- 7 lessons → approximately 8–12 pieces
Participants may use all studio tools and join the glazing lesson. A fast worker and want to create even more? You can fire more of your creations for €10 per kg.
Course duration & planning
The courses usually consist out of 5, 6 or 7 lessons. There is always a one-week break before the final glazing lesson to allow for drying and bisque firing. Each session lasts 2.5 hours, including cleanup time.
We will always have at least:
- multiple throwing/handbuilding sessions
- 1 trimming/decoration session
- 1 glazing session
- Your creations will be ready for pick-up approx. 3 weeks after your final glazing lesson.
