Summer Clay Taster: Intro Wheel Throwing + glazing

Summer Clay taster experience now €160 (usually €115 + €60 = €175)

Join our Summer Clay Taster and get hands-on experience with throwing on the wheel and glazing your own pieces! This workshop is specially designed for beginners to discover the world of clay! During July and August, there are no multi-week courses due to the holiday period. This summer taster is the perfect way to see if wheel throwing is for you! Great as a standalone workshop, and also a fun way to explore if you’d like to start a full course after the summer. 

We teach in small groups of 5 participants, so everyone gets enough personal attention and guidance!

Session 1: Wheel Throwing Lesson - max 5 participants per session!

What you’ll do:

• Brief introduction to making ceramics
• Wedging the clay – preparing the clay for the wheel
• Short demo + learning to center the clay on the wheel
• Step-by-step guidance while practicing throwing: practice as much as you like! Each participant usually has 2–3 pieces bisque-fired

After the workshop, your pieces will be dried and trimmed (finishing the base) by me, then fired in the studio kiln. Three weeks later, your pieces will be ready to glaze in a glazing workshop.

Session 2: Glazing

What you’ll do:

In the glazing workshop, we’ll work with colors to give your pieces a personal touch. Choose your favorite colors from our glaze collection and decorate with stripes, flowers, or anything else you like!

During the first wheel throwing session, you’ll receive a glaze voucher, which you can use to book your glazing session at a convenient date (within 3 months). Nice and flexible for the holiday period! You can already check all the glazing workshop dates here!

Note: your pieces must be bisque fired first, so glazing sessions can be scheduled from 3 weeks after your intro lesson. Several dates are available each month.

Example: If your first session (wheel throwing) is on July 7th, you can book your second session (glazing)  from early August onwards.

Prefer to just throw and skip glazing?

No problem! Your pieces will be glazed for you by Atelier La Salamandre in either white or green glaze. They’ll be ready to pick up within 4 weeks after your wheel lesson.

Good to know

• Minimum of 3 participants required for the course to take place.
  
• Usually taught in Dutch, but if you are English, I will make it a fun mix of both (no problem!) 
  
• Make sure your nails are short! Throwing on the wheel with long nails is very difficult and can damage both your clay and your nails.
• Bring an old towel and wear old clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
