Wheel Throwing Course for Beginners
Take a break from the daily grind and immerse yourself in the art of wheel throwing. In this hands-on course, you’ll create beautiful ceramic pieces—from mugs to small bowls—while learning the timeless craft of working on the pottery wheel.
This course is designed for complete beginners or anyone with a little experience who wants to deepen their skills. I’ll guide you step by step through each part of the process, so you can relax, enjoy, and focus on learning and creating.
Small Group, Big Impact
What makes this course extra special? You’ll share the experience with just one other participant. That means plenty of personal attention, tailored guidance, and the space to move at your own pace. We’ll also take time to talk about what you want to create, and work towards making that happen—within the beginner’s level.
What to Expect
We’ll begin with a warm welcome and an introduction to the wheel, where you’ll learn how to prepare your clay, center it, and shape it into functional pieces. Each session builds on the last, introducing new techniques that help you gain confidence in throwing smaller items on the wheel.
In the final lessons, we’ll focus on trimming your pieces for a clean, professional finish, and glazing them in one of seven beautiful studio colors. Your work will be fired twice—once for bisque and once for glaze—making your pieces food-safe, durable, and ready to enjoy.
Tip: Think ahead about the shapes or forms you’d like to try—this helps you stay focused and enjoy the process even more!
The goal is to finish 3 pieces to take home, but we’ll practice much more than that on the wheel to help you build strong foundational skills.
