Learn the Art of Wheel Throwing in a Small Group, with lots of personal attention
(4 wheel throwing participants + 2 independent handbuilding spots)
Take a break from your busy daily life and immerse yourself in the art of wheel throwing. In this hands-on course, you’ll create beautiful ceramic pieces. From mugs to small bowls, while learning the craft of working on the pottery wheel.
This wheel throwing course is perfect for complete beginners or anyone with a little experience looking to deepen their skills. I’ll guide you step by step, so you can relax, enjoy, and focus on learning and creating.
I believe it's very important that everyone feels comfortable during the lessons. Everyone learns at their own pace and I’ll guide you individually, wherever you are in the process.
Duration and lessons wheel throwing course
Most courses include 7 lessons spread over 8 weeks, with one week off in between for drying and bisque firing. Each session lasts 2.5 hours (19:00–21:30).
Occasionally, due to holidays or scheduling, shorter versions (5- or 6-lesson courses) are offered. These follow the same structure but without the decoration lesson and one less throwing sessions.
✨ Typical Course Program
- Lesson 1 – Preparing the clay & centering
- Lesson 2 – Practicing cylinders & throwing your first pieces
- Lesson 3 – More throwing practice
- Lesson 4 – More throwing practice
- Lesson 5 – Trimming your work
- Lesson 6 – Trimming & Decorating
- Break – No class (your pieces will be bisque fired)
- Lesson 7 – Glazing your trimmed pieces
How many pieces will I take home from the throwing course?
You can practice as much as you like — there’s no limit on clay! Only your carefully finished and trimmed pieces will be fired. On a 7-week course, students typically take home 4–7 pieces.
Self-Guided Handbuilding – 2 Spots Available
While the main lessons focus on wheel throwing, there is space in the studio for two participants to work independently on their own handbuilding clay projects. This is your chance to experiment with your favorite pieces, explore your ideas, and create freely at your own pace. Some prior experience is required, as basic techniques won’t be taught, but I’m available for occasional questions during the session. If you’re new to handbuilding, it’s recommended to first book a handbuilding workshop to learn the basics. You can use all atelier tools and join the final decoration and glazing lesson!
Includes ½ pack of clay, as well as firing and glazing of the pieces made from this clay.
NOTE: Handbuilders start 30 minutes earlier on the first lesson for setup.

Good to Know
- Minimum of 3 participants required for the course to take place.
- The workshop is usually taught in Dutch, but if you are English, I will make it a fun mix of both (no problem!)
- Can’t make one of the lessons but still excited to join? Depending on which lesson it is, we might be able to schedule a catch-up session at another time. Just get in touch beforehand so we can discuss the options.
- Bring an old towel and wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
- Make sure your nails are short! Throwing on the wheel with long nails is very difficult and can damage both your clay and your nails.
- Please read the FAQ before booking, including the cancellation policy.
- Questions? Feel free to email me!
